Jessica Fulkerson received her Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance and music theory as well as her Master of Music degree in music theory from Texas Christian University. While at TCU, she studied flute under Karen Adrian and theory under Blaise Ferrandino and Gerald Gabel.
Ms. Fulkerson has taught music theory courses at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Christian University, and Columbia University. In addition, she teaches SAT and GRE test preparation courses for Sherwood Test Prep. Her interests are varied and include performance/analysis of modern flute music, Schenkerian and linear analysis, and diatonic set theory. Her thesis, “Prolongational Signaling in Semantic and Syntactic Context: Three Mod7 Analyses,” introduced a new system of notation for modulo 7 set theory, and proposed that linear progression and harmonic support can be seen through the use of both ordered and unordered mod7 sets.
Ms. Fulkerson is the principal flutist and executive director of the Sinfonietta of Fort Worth. She is a founding member of the Ravus Trio (flute, cello, piano), the Sinfonietta of Fort Worth Woodwind Quintet, and Sparkle Motion (flute, oboe, cello). Her professional affiliations include the Society for Music Theory, the National Flute Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
