Dr. Ann Gipson is Associate Professor of Piano
and Director of Piano Pedagogy Studies. In
addition to teaching piano pedagogy, she teaches
class piano and directs the Pedagogy Laboratory
Program, a program of group and individual
instruction for pre-college students.
Prior to her appointment at TCU, Gipson
served on the piano faculty of Baylor University,
where she directed the piano pedagogy program. Prior
to that she taught at Oklahoma Baptist University,
teaching applied piano and class piano, as well
as coordinating
the
piano
pedagogy program. She has also taught on the
faculties of the University
of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Delta State
University, and the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Gipson holds a Bachelor of Music degree
from Eastern Illinois University and both
a Master of Music degree and the Ph.D.
in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma,
where she studied piano with Dr. Jane
Magrath
and piano pedagogy with Dr. Jane Magrath
and Dr. E. L. Lancaster.
She is actively involved in
Music Teachers National Association
and recently completed a two-year term as chair
of the conference planning committee for the MTNA
national
conferences.
She
is a Past-President of
the Oklahoma
Music Teachers Association, and a
member of Texas Music Teachers Association,
Texas Music Educators Association, Sigma
Alpha Iota professional music fraternity,
and Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor
society.
Her articles have appeared in Clavier,
AMT, Keyboard Companion, Alfred Piano
Rendezvous,
and Piano Pedagogy Forum. She has
served as a clinician and adjudicator in Texas,
Oklahoma,
Kansas, and Kentucky. In addition,
Gipson
enjoys collaborative performing and
has accompanied numerous choral festivals.
