Candace Primas Alley, a native of Camden, New Jersey, was involved in many musical activities from an early age. Afterhaving been appointed her piano teachers assistant in 1972, Candace ,began to teach private piano and music theory. Candace served as accompanist for several 'choirs, and as a member of the band and orchestra, studied flute and violin, respectively.

In 1978 she earned an A.B. in Music with a concentration in Theory and Concentration from Princeton University. She was a graduate teaching assistant at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. in Ear Training while pursuing a Masters in Music Composition with a minor in Theory. After working at IBM in a technical capacity for the following seven years, she chose to continue and complete her musical degree. During her sixth year at IBM she transferred from her marketing office in New Jersey to the National Customer Support Center for midrange systems in LasColinas, Texas. After two years, she resigned and began her doctorate studies at the University of North Texas. Candace earned a DMA in Music Composition with a minor in Theory in December 1994. Her dissertation, Jasmine's Secret, is based upon an original fairytale. The work is a cantata for four solo voices, narrator, and orchestra.

From 1990-1992, Candace served as minister of music for her local church, and has continued to serve on an occasional basis. During the past ten years, Candace has served as adjunct instructor in music at Tarrant County College (NW campus), Texas Christian University, and the University of Texas at Arlington. She has taught courses in Music Reading, Ear Training, Theory, Composition, Music Appreciation, and Electronic Media. As a member of the Arlington Music Teachers Association since 1995, she served as board member for two years. She was elected board member of the Cowboys of Color National Museum and Hall of Fame in 2002. Candace is also involved as an instructor in Piano Camp and Strings Camp during the summer, both of which are held at UTA.

Candace currently resides in Arlington and is married to Gerald B. Alley (BS, University of Arkansas, MBA, Southern Methodist University), a local entrepreneur in the commercial construction and real estate industry. They have three children: Gina (I 5), Stephanie (I 2) and Byron (7).
