One of the nation's most esteemed choral musicians, Dr. Eph Ehly, will serve as Interim Director of Choral Activities at TCU during the spring 2010 semester. Ehly was called “one of the most sought-after choral conductors/clinicians in the United States” in “The Choral Journal,” the official publication of the American Choral Directors Association.

As conductor, author, lecturer and clinician, Ehly has appeared in 48 states, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Mexico and several countries throughout Europe, and has presented on more than 100 college and university campuses, more than 80 all-state choirs, and more than 600 festival ensembles.  He has received numerous awards, including the Mrs. Ewing M. Kauffman Excellence in Teaching Award and the Teaching Award for Excellence from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where he is Professor Emeritus in the Conservatory of Music, following 27 years of service there. 

His teaching philosophies and rehearsal techniques have been shared in his popular book, “Hogey’s Journey – Living to Learn, Learning to Teach, Teaching to Learn How to Live,” and in the “Video Master Classes” released by the Hal Leonard Publishing Company.  He has recently served as Interim Professor of Choral Music at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Kansas. In his years as a choral mentor, more than 90 Doctorate and 100 Masters Degree students graduated under his supervision.

A recipient of several faculty grants, Ehly studied advanced compositional techniques in choral music while visiting leading composers and conductors across Europe and Asia. Under the sponsorship of the Partners of the Americas program, he served as guest artist in residence to Belem, the capital of the state of Para, Brazil, and a second residency in Rio de Janeiro.

Dr. Ehly received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado and his Master of Music degree from George Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee.  His Bachelor of Arts degree is from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  Notable teachers are:  Jean Berger, Julius Hereford, Warner Imig, William Lynn, George Lynn, Louis Nicholas, Vincent Persichetti and Lynn Whitten.
