R. Eric Simpson is an Assistant Professor of Music Education (Instrumental) at Texas Christian University, teaching graduate and undergraduate music education courses, supervising student teachers, and assisting with the University Bands. He received a PhD in Music Education from The Florida State University, a Master of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University.
His primary research interests include temporal aspects of musical evaluation, teacher misconduct, and sociological influences on music education. Dr. Simpson’s articles have appeared in the Journal of Music Teacher Education, The Instrumentalist, and The Florida Music Director. He has presented research at the Texas Music Education Association’s College Division Research Poster Session. In 2010, he was the recipient of both the Junior Faculty Summer Research Program (JFSRP) Grant and the Research and Creative Activity (RCAF) Grant from Texas Christian University.
Prior to his appointment at TCU, Dr. Simpson served as Director of Bands/Chairman of Fine Arts at William R. Boone High School (Orlando, FL), Associate Director of Bands at Dr. Phillips High School (Orlando, FL), and Director of Bands at Fort King Middle School (Ocala, FL). His ensembles consistently received recognition for outstanding performances at various festivals in Florida. In addition, Dr. Simpson has served as an administrator for FSU Summer Music Camps, and as a guest clinician for numerous bands throughout Florida.
