After earning degrees in piano (TCU), and voice (UNT), Mark Metcalf went to Vienna, Austria for further study in piano accompanying at the Vienna Conservatory of Music. He began working as Solo-Coach with the Civic Theatre in Bremerhaven, Germany. In 1990 he returned to Vienna to serve as head coach at the Vienna Chamber Opera. He was also staff accompanist with the Belevedere International Vocal Competition, and played recitals in Bremen, Paris, Prague and Vienna.

As harpsichordist, he toured Japan, South Korea, and China with the Vienna Chamber Opera, and accompanied the Mozart Festival in Schönbrunn, Austria.
Since returning to Dallas-Fort Worth, he has been an active recital partner, as well as accompanist for the Fort Worth Opera. He joined the faculty at Texas Christian University in 2002.
