Robert Garwell is a Professor of Music at Texas Christian University. From 1989 to 1999 he served as Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Previously, he served as Dean of the College of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Assistant Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and Chairman of the Music Department at Drake University, and Chairman of the Music Department at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. From 1990-92 he served as President of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition from the University of Oklahoma, and the Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Ohio University.

Dr. Garwell has composed for a wide variety of music ensembles including orchestra, chorus, symphonic band, jazz ensemble, trumpet choir, trombone choir, percussion ensemble, and assorted solo and chamber music groups. Works for musical theatre, and incidental music for theatre are also included in his catalogue. The popular offering From Rock to Bach was developed by Dr. Garwell for the general university student.
