Mr. Gunter is currently Adjunct Professor of Theory and Ear-Training
at Texas Christian University. He is also a clarinet and saxophone
private instructor for the TCU Preparatory Division, Birdville
ISD, and Keller ISD. He previously served as Assistant Director
of Bands at Smithfield Middle School in the Birdville ISD
where he taught all the beginning woodwinds and assisted with
the concert bands. He has served as adjudicator for all levels
of contests and auditions, including TMEA region auditions for
middle and high school, All-State Jazz saxophone auditions, concerto
competitions, solo contests, and the TCU Jazz Festival. He
holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a
Master’s degree in Music Theory/Composition from TCU.
An active composer, arranger, and songwriter, his list of performed
compositions include popular songs, works for chamber groups,
string quartets, and jazz combos. His 1994 country song, “Don’t
Leave That Memory Here” was nominated for the song of the
year for the metroplex CMA. His list of performed arrangements
include Big-Band instrumentals and vocals, arrangements for jazz
combo, rock band, church orchestra, and marching band. In addition
to teaching, Mr. Gunter maintains an active schedule in the DFW
area as a professional musician and band leader with his own
variety band, Trey & the Tritones. He has shared the stage
with jazz artists such as Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis,
Tony Campisi, and film composer Patrick Williams as well as country
music legends Eddy Raven and Marty Stuart. You may visit Mr.
