Hector J. Gil received his B.S. in Music Education degree in 2001
from Texas A&M University Commerce. While in Commerce, he
was a member of the Percussion Ensemble that won the prestigious
PAS “Call for Tapes” in 2000 that earned the ensemble
the opportunity to perform a showcase concert at PASIC 2000. Hector
was also a member of the TAMUC Drumline that received 2nd place
at the 2000 PASIC Marching Percussion Festival. Hector’s
most recent position was Assistant Band Director/Percussion Instructor
for the United High School Band in Laredo, TX. From 2002-2005
he built the percussion studio and under his direction, the UHS
percussion studio, Percussion Ensemble, and Drumline won many
competitions along with numerous honors and awards from around
the state. Along with his teaching duties at UHS, Hector served
as a percussion instructor at Texas A&M International University.
Hector’s Drum Corps experience includes membership with
the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps in 1997 and 1998. He was also
a Percussion Graduate Assistant at TCU in 2001-2002. Hector is
currently an active percussionist in the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra
and has performed with the North East Texas Symphony and the Laredo
Wind Ensemble. Hector composes and arranges for numerous marching
bands and drumlines and serves as a drumline clinician for several
high schools throughout Texas. He has performed at many venues
across the United States such as the Meyerson Symphony Center
Auditorium, the College Band Directors National Association Convention,
the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and the Percussive
Arts Society International Convention. His professional affiliations
include the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association,
Texas Bandmasters Association, Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps
Alumni, the Texas A&M University – Commerce Alumni Association,
and is endorsed by Innovative Percussion Inc.
